Encourage Gossip Within Your Team and Learn to Trust Each Other. What?

To kick off our annual strategic planning meetings, we like to start out with an ice breaker.  This year Jesse Dison was in charge.  (I know - that is a scary thought).

After doing this group exercise, we all unanimously agreed this was a great game to do as a team!!!  It was fun, built team spirit, and we learned how much we really liked each other!  (Plus, we affirmed that we are truly living one of our core values:  Trust - w e establish trust with our customers, vendors, and each other by doing what we say and following our core values.)

Jesse found this trust ice breaker at quizbreaker.com, so we wanted to share with our customers.

Gossip Time

Objective: To get team members learning new and interesting things about each other

We recommend using this icebreaker when your team players know each other fairly well and when there is a level of trust among the group.

Recent research has actually found that trust is linked directly to positive team performance, so we can’t recommend enough ensuring that trust is at the forefront of your team's culture

Taking a walk in downtown Palmer, you can feel the love, support, and comfort that is unique to the community of Palmer alone. What better way is there to experience those comforts than trying cuisine from the people? In the heart of downtown is Alaska’s Best Phillys; offering you the comfort food of your dreams. Their menu has your favorite classic Philly cheese steak and so much more, creating a menu with a personality of its own. Add to any sandwich your favorite fried sides to complete this heart-warming meal.

David has heard from other restaurant owners that Skurla’s was the company to work with for POS and credit card processing.  With his recent acquisition of Alaska’s Best Phillys, he needed a system and a company that would take care of those needs, while they focused on living up to their name and making the best phillys in Alaska.  We were happy to answer the call!

Founder, John Skurla, Passes Peacefully

Skurla’s co-founder and Alaskan legend, John Skurla (my dad), passed away peacefully on October 30th.  He was 90 years old.

Many of you may have known John, who provided some of the first cash registers and point of sale systems to Alaskans before he and his wife, Phyllis, founded Skurla’s back in 1976.  Even though he retired several years ago, his thoughts, ideas, and business principles still continue to guide and influence the company today.  He meant so much to many different people.  He was a boss, a father, a friend, a trusted advisor, and more.  The team at Skurla’s POS Solutions honors John Skurla as the legend he was and will continue to cherish his memory for years to come.

His service will be at St John United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 11th at 4 p.m. AST.  Please note that this service will require a mask to be worn. It will also be live streamed for those that can't attend in person (check this page for an update on how).

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to VA SPECIAL REHABILITATION EVENTS (Fund #4417) Donations from this fund are used to financially support the travel expenses for Veteran patients attending VA-sponsored rehabilitation events such as the National Veteran Golden Age Games as well as National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic in Colorado.  For more information on how to donate: https://www.alaskalegionauxiliary.org/Veterans_Affairs_Voluntary_Service_(VAVS).htm

Did You Know that Thermal Paper Rolls Can Be Fun????  No Really!!!!

I am guessing you hardly give thermal paper a thought.  It is something you need to have in order to print customer and credit card receipts.  Most people only think about it when they run out (especially if it is a busy Friday night!)

Well apparently, our support team started thinking about thermal paper   Perhaps overthinking...
