How does a duplicate charge occur?
A duplicate charge results from the POS submitting a Sale and being unable to receive or interpret the response from the gateway after a transaction has been processed. In this situation the POS has no way of knowing the payment has been processed, so the employee will then attempt to charge the card a second time, resulting in the duplicate.
For BridgePay, a duplicate transaction response will be received on the second Sale attempt, then the POS will query the current batch for the original Sale, and record that one instead of charging a second time. These failures occur most often with manual entry transactions (WebLink) where a bad response is received, and in these cases the POS will immediately lookup the previous transaction without requiring the user to retype the card info. In this manner the duplicate charges are prevented and the transactions are still recorded in the POS minimizing the operational disruption and requiring no guest or employee intervention.
For each merchant, find the Merchant Key on boarding.itstgate.com and input it on the Payment Gateway page of the Admin site under BridgePay Settings. Then publish a setup file.
